TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS

Free ‘Autism in Education’ Training for School Staff
6-Part Zoom Course Starts 9th June

Sessions 1 & 2 – Autism Awareness

Sessions 3 & 4 – Understanding Sensory Difficulties

Sessions 5 & 6 – Understanding and Managing Distressed Behaviour

During lockdown, Glasgow East End Community Carers is delighted to be able to extend our autism training programme to offer ‘Autism in Education’ – a free, CPD Zoom training course for education professionals working in schools and pre-school settings.

Our course facilitator, Tanya Tennant, has a wealth of knowledge and experience in autism training for professionals and comes with a unique perspective. Her courses come highly commended (see attached)

This course is for all education staff, in particular teachers, classroom assistants and nursery staff who come into regular contact with children with autism spectrum condition (ASC). The course is for you, whether you have received previous autism training or not and is an ideal refresher.

As you know, children with ASC have a different way of understanding the world around them. This is reflected in their learning style and interaction with staff and peers in school. You may be working with issues around their;

• Social communication, interaction and imagination
• Repetitive behaviour and restricted interests
• Sensory processing
• Intellectual capability
• High levels of anxiety

We will provide ideas for supporting children with ASC in the classroom, and introduce tools and strategies to manage challenging behaviour, reduce disruption and improve the classroom and learning experience of children with autism, their neurotypical peers and teaching staff.

The 6-part course runs over 3 weeks – 2 x 90-minute Zoom sessions/week on a Tuesday & Thursday at 1.00-2.30pm. Course starts Tuesday 9th June.
No need to sign-up or register with Zoom. Just sign up for the course then accept our invitation by text or email.

Please Note: Ideally, attendees should join every session because the course has been designed in such a way that one topic flows naturally onto the next to give a whole picture of the core difficulties in Autism, which then demonstrates the value of implementing effective support strategies in an educational setting. We understand that you may have had other commitments and whilst we are happy for you to join us, please be mindful that you will not get the same experience, although recordings will be available later.’

All information is attached. Please read testimonials from other schools and local organisations.
As we are using Zoom Pro, we are able to accommodate a high number of participants so we ask that you please circulate this to your staff teams or anyone you think will benefit.
