January 2021

This month the Scottish Government announced an additional £750K for unpaid carers in Scotland. Extra funding to support unpaid carers – gov.scot (www.gov.scot)

Funding will be administered to Local Authority carers services, by Shared Care Scotland.

It comes in response to concerns about increasing pressure on carers – particularly while many traditional respite breaks are restricted or unavailable.

The funding is designed to allow Local Authority carers services in Glasgow to react flexibly to the needs of carers in their area. Feedback suggests there is a demand for extending existing services such as befriending, counselling or online support groups, as well as offering additional grants for carers which can be used for expenditure such as leisure equipment, hobbies or entertainment subscriptions.
