NEW £250 BEST START GRANT – SCHOOL AGE PAYMENT

Social Security Scotland’s Best Start Grant – School Age Payment is a new £250 payment to help with the costs of preparing for school when a child is first old enough to start primary school. 

IF YOUR CHILD WAS BORN BETWEEN 1ST MARCH 2015 AND 29 FEBRUARY 2016 

YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE 

If so, you can apply if you meet the following criteria; 

  • you are the child’s main carer 
  • you are in receipt of one of the following benefits (even if you work) 
    • Universal Credit 
    • Child Tax Credits 
    • Working Tax Credits 
    • Housing Benefit 
    • Income Support 
    • Pension Credit 
    • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) 
  • you are not currently in receipt of any of the above but are in the process of applying 

YOU CAN STILL APPLY EVEN IF YOUR CHILD’S START DATE HAS BEEN DEFERRED OR YOUR CHILD IS NOT GOING TO START SCHOOL AT ALL. 

You MUST apply by the deadline to receive this payment. You’ll get £250 for each child who qualifies.
